An example of this is: depression, procrastination, hesitation, food and other addictions, blaming others for your troubles, avoiding decisions, withdrawing from relationships. Secure problems seem secure because they seem to protect us from our fear that if we try and fail, we won’t be enough and won’t be loved. In the long run it is the secure problems, such as depression and addictions, which cause more damage to our bodies, our spirit, and our relationships than risky problems ever do. When people come up against a risky decision that they feel unwilling to make, they will often develop a secure problem which will distract them from making a risky decision.

Depression or the feeling of overloaded or hopelessness immobilises and destroys more people’s lives than any other negative emotion. People who suffer from depression feel like they are stuck and there is no way out so they stop trying. The key here to realise is that this is a warning signal. People must take immediate action in order to sort out this challenge. The longer this challenge is avoided the more intense it can get in the future and the more damage it can cause on an emotional, physical and psychological level.
